THORUNN CLAUSEN LYRICS, STAGING AND DIRECTOR

Actress Thorunn Erna Clausen, Sjonni’s wife grew up in a suburb of Reykjavík although spending many of her summers in the French part of Switzerland. As a child she spent endless hours watching and listening to musicals, took piano and dancing lessons, competed in ballroom dancing and from the age of 11 she started dreaming of a career in the theatre. She ended up following her dream and studied drama and singing at the Webber Douglas Academy in London. After graduating in 2001 she started her successful acting career at the National Theatre of Iceland. Her career now spans many leading roles both in award winning Icelandic plays and modern classics such as ‘August in Osage County’ and ‘Bash’ for which she was nominated for the Grima Theatre Awards as best actress in 2003. She recently appeared in the world renowned Icelandic theatre company’s Vesturport’s acclaimed production of “Faust” in St. Petersburg, Russia. Thorunn also has a singing career and has played leading roles in musicals in one of which, “Le Sing”, she met her husband Sjonni Brink in the year 2002. The two of them performed together on numerous occasions as a duo for 9 years. Some of her other musical roles include Nancy in ‘Oliver’, Kathy in ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ and ‘The Sound of Music’. Thorunn has played various roles in film and television and was nominated for the Icelandic Edda Film Awards as best actress both in 2004 and 2005 for her roles on screen. Her most recent stage work is the one woman play ‘The Saga of Gudridur’, which recounts the story of Icelandic heroine Gudridur Thorbjarnardottir, who courageously traversed the North Atlantic no less than eight times around the year 1000. 

 

Thorunn has directed and choreographed many musicals and plays, and she staged and choreographed all of Sjonni’s ESC Icelandic preselection entries. She has also appeared in commercials in England and Iceland and acted in a number of radio plays. Thorunn is a popular commercial voice over artist and recently started lending her voice to different cartoon characters in the Icelandic versions of numerous upcoming Barbie films. 

 

Thorunn is a prolific lyricist and wrote the words to ‘Coming Home’ as a vivacious reminder of the fragility of life. Thorunn has been a big Eurovision fan ever since she was a little girl and was hoping to share her dream with her husband this year when everything changed so suddenly. Thorunn has four beautiful children, loves to ride horses and is definately not a better golfer than any of Sjonni’s Friends.
